Who We Are

Creekside Commons is an inclusive and sharing community of 36 families who are making conscious choices about how to live with each other in an ecologically and socially responsible manner.  We want to live lighter on the planet.

We range in age from 2 to 85.  There are single people, couples, empty-nesters, young families with toddlers, others with grade school children or young adults. Many Creeksiders work full or part time, some are students, some are recently retired, others retired long ago.   All of us have interests and commitments here at home in the Comox Valley and in the world outside our community.

We arrived in the Comox Valley from other parts of British Columbia, as well as Alberta and Saskatchewan; and from California, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.  Some of us came to Creekside while it was developing because we were looking for an intentional community.  Others discovered Creekside while looking for a better way to live in our increasingly complex and impersonal world,

We have a diverse, talented group of people sharing their talents and passions within our community.  Our members are either presently employed or have worked in many fields: healthcare and social work; education; and the trades (forestry workers, carpenters, electricians, and mechanics).  Others of us have had a life-long commitment to organic, sustainable farming.  We have arbourists, landscapers, and environmental engineers. We live with professional musicians, graphic artists, potters, stained-glass artists, writers, singers, and songwriters.

What We Do

In Creekside Commons we balance our private lives with our commitment to our intentional community.  There’s time for daily walks, casual conversation, contemplation, spiritual practice, gardening, and other personal pursuits.  We gather together frequently, for twice-a-week community potluck meals, for volunteer work parties, and for small and large group meetings to reach consensus on the community’s needs.

Here’s a sample page from our community calendar:

We like to have fun, too: swimming, gardening, cross country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, hiking, dance, cooking, wine making, photography, astronomy, ceramic sculpture, poetry, woodworking, kayaking, sailing, canoeing, golfing, biking, and acting.
